About six months ago, I saw the cover of the album "inter play" by John Foxx (real name Dennis Leigh 1948-), a member of Ultravox (a rock group from England). The simple heart shape with a composition of colored surfaces was impressive. The design of "every color you are" is based on it. By arranging four oval shapes of the same size and shape symmetrically, a heart shape emerges secondarily. When these ovals are reduced to six, the design of "atom heart mother" appears.
The color scheme of "mother and child devided" is based on Rudolf Steiner's (1861-1925) kumi-himo pattern. One of the characteristics of this pattern is that the shapes appear to be nested. The maternity hospital where life is born is a place of both joy and sorrow. While the birth of a child is celebrated, the grief of a mother facing a life that could not be born is immeasurable. Just as a child is pushed out of the womb into the outside world at birth, it is pushed further out into the harsh real world when it leaves the maternity hospital. The maternity hospital may be called another womb.
The title of this work is derived from the title of a song, but it has nothing to do with the content of the song. It was framed to function as a work of art, which I hoped would induce a certain sense of contemplation in the viewer as he or she looked at it carefully, but at first I thought of it as a core design image that could be deployed in various scenes in the hospital.
